Power

He handed her a bucket. What was she to do? If she used it, she worried she would become it. If she did not use her power, she surely would die of thirst. She realized that protection-whether used to reject becoming the thing that hurt her or used to defend herself from someone else’s misuse of power (and she was not sure if there was a difference between the two)-was use of power none the less. So she filled up her bucket, drank until she was full and decided to trust her intentions.
